Ice Cream in Europe – the Prettiest to the Yummiest

| Ice cream treats and gelato in Europe |

After having become slightly addicted to gelato while we were Europe, the debate began – which country had the best gelato? We tried it in Germany, Italy and France and the winner is…. Germany.

The absolute best tasting, most flavourful gelato came from a little storefront in Munich, just down the street from the Hofbrauhaus. This came as a surprise to us as we also had gelato from the 2006-07 and 2008-09 World Gelato Champion in San Gimignano (came in a close second). The prettiest gelato came from Strasbourg, France where they shaped it into a beautiful tulip. What made the gelato in Germany the best, in our opinion, was because it was the creamiest and most flavourful.

The gelato was the cheapest in Munich and the most expensive in France.

Locations:
Gelateria Garda – Orlandostrasse, Munich, Germany
Gelateria Dondoli – Piazza Della Cisterna, San Gimignano, Italy
Amorino – 11 Rue Mercière, Strasbourg, France

There were several other gelato spots that we tried out, but these ones stood out to us. One thing that we did observe is that gelato and fancy ice cream desserts were most popular in Germany. Here we found multiple-page dessert menus featuring fancy ice cream desserts. We can’t wait to go back and try them all!
