Easy DIY spa treatments you can make at home

| Ideas for an easy DIY spa day |

In need of some pampering and relaxation? We have some ideas for creating your own spa day at home. Most of the ingredients for your DYI Spa day can be found in your kitchen cabinets, or you can order them online or find them at your grocery store.

What I love about DYI spa days is you can make small quantities to experiment and if you like your creation you can make more and give them out as gifts.

Here is a list of some of the spa treatments that my daughters and I have tried for our own fun spa day.

Lavender Facial Steam

A lavender facial steam is great for opening up and helping to clean your pores from excess oil.

Items needed
Large bowl
Lavender essential oil drops or 2 tbsp. of dried lavender
2.5-3 cups Boiling water
Large Towel

1. If using dried herbs, place in the bowl
2. Pour 2.5 – 3 cups of boiling water over the dried herbs
3. If using an essential oil, pour boiling water into the bowl and add 7-10 drops of a calming essential oil like lavender.
4. Let water cool slightly for 1-2 minutes
5. Hang head over the bowl and cover your head and bowl with a large towel. Be careful not to get too close so the steam burns your face.
6. Breathe in the steam for 5-10 minutes and let the lavender scent relax you.
7. When done, pat your face with a clean washcloth.

Bath Soak

I love this recipe as it has tons of skin-softening ingredients in it. Epsom salts help with aching muscles, baking soda acts as a gentle exfoliator and powdered milk softens the skin.

Ingredients needed

2 cups Epsom Salts
1 cup Baking Soda
½ cup Powdered Milk
15 – 20 drops of Lavender Essential Oil
Container to put bath soak in

Mix all the ingredients together and use 1 cup in your bath. Put the remaining ingredients in a jar for use at a later date.

Lip Scrub

Lips are sensitive so be sure to be gentle when using scrub.

½ tsp brown sugar (do not use Demerara sugar as the granules are too large and could tear your lip)
½ tsp honey
¼ tsp sunflower or coconut oil

Mix together and gently rub over lips. Rinse and apply lip balm.

Most of these ingredients can be bought at your local grocery store or pharmacy. Another great place to get high-quality ingredients is Voyageur Soap & Candle, which has both a Canadian and American website.
