Month in Review: January 2023

| Month in Review |

January 2023 flew by! The beginning of the year is usually a bit of a blur for me as work gets really busy and we are adjusting to the kids being back in school.

Highlights

In December I hauled out the old stationary bike and started to ride it again. I decided to try out a few cycling apps as I find watching tv or reading while cycling boring. I tried the Peleton app, but didn’t really like it and then I found the FulGaz app and loved it!

What I love about the FulGaz app is that I can take cycling trips all over the world. One can select the ride based on duration, distance, or level of difficulty. Because I don’t have a smart bike, I usually select by the scenery and then manually adjust the bike. My virtual bike rides have taken me over the Golden Gate Bridget, to Belgium, a village in France, and the seaside in Portugal.

Another highlight was heading out to Alberta to see our kids. One is in university and the other is an RN at the hospital. It was so great to have everyone together! This empty nest thing is hard and I treasure any moments we can have together.

Lowlights

One of the biggest lowlights for January has been the never-ending winter we have been having. January overall actually was warmer than most months, but it was cloudy, foggy, rainy, and snowy. We have had snow on the ground since Halloween and we are getting pretty tired of it. Down closer to the lake they have had a reprieve, but not those of us on the hills! I am really looking forward to winter being over.

Binged Shows

This month I discovered two new shows on Apple+ TV. Blackbird and Bad Sisters, both are well worth the watch. Bad Sisters is 10 episodes long and the story is about four sisters and how their brother in-law turns up dead. Each sister had a reason for killing him and through the 10 episodes we discover why they had reason to dislike him.

Black Bird is inspired by actual events and is six episodes long and very easy to binge in a weekend. The majority of the show takes place in a prison where one character tries to elicit a confession out of another.

Places Travelled

We took a quick trip out to Edmonton to see our girls. We stayed downtown in a suite and it was great. We were within walking distance of so many restaurants and it was close to our girls. When we were there we had to make a trip to West Edmonton Mall (the largest shopping mall in North America) and on the way back to our hotel we stopped at Kunitz Shoes where I got some Birkenstock runners! I love them! Other highlights of the trip included brunch at the Tiramisu Bistro, seeing family, watching some basketball, and a stop at Made by Marcus for some ice cream (the lemon curd blueberry was to die for!).
